Using Anther Culture to Develop Rice Germplasm] The dynamics of rice pests (harmful arthropods, diseases, and weeds) increase both rice research costs and market prices. To counteract the serious loss of yield (20%) to pests in Latin America, the manual offers rice farmers and researchers up-to-date methods of control, thresholds of damage, and integrated management strategies. Four institutions sponsored the work: the Fundacion Polar of Venezuela, FEDEARROZ of Colombia, the Fund for Latin American Irrigated Rice (FLAR), and CIAT. 57 p. 21.5 x 28 cm.

[Tissue culture in agriculture: Bases and applications] In 10 of 40 chapters, this reference thoroughly describes the principal elements of a program for plant tissue culture, from establishing the laboratory and selecting culture media to the refined techniques of cell suspension, protoplast culture and hybridization, identification of hybrids with isoenzymes, and biochemical and molecular markers. In the remaining 30 chapters, the reference describes the application of tissue culture techniques to many important agricultural species. An extensive glossary and several appendices complete the work to which almost 50 specialists from three continents have contributed since 1985. Designed as an advanced text and reference, this book is a first of its type published in Spanish in Latin America.
Keywords: Tissue culture; Anther culture; Embryo culture; Metabolites; Plant propagation; Protoplasts; Biotechnology; Propagation materials
