The Asian Cassava Research Network held its 7th Regional Cassava Workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, from 28 October to 1 November 2002. About a 130 researchers, extension workers, growers, and industrialists participated. There were also 12 participants from Latin America. More than 70 papers were presented by scientists from China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries. Latest developments in the NF Project on Farmer Participatory Research and Extension, and various issues of cassava root and leaf production, animal feed, and processing were discussed. The Proceedings of this Workshop, entitled "Cassava Research and Development in Asia: Exploring New Opportunities for an Ancient Crop", have been published and provide an important historical record of the progress made in cassava research and development in Asia during the past 25-35 years.
